Click a row to show that storm. “Radar max” is the largest radar-estimated hail anywhere in the three counties that day; “km² ≥ 1 in” is how much ground the radar put under hail of an inch or more. Radar estimates exist from 2022.

How to read this
- Spotter reports (the circles) are hail sizes phoned or posted in to the National Weather Service by trained spotters, emergency managers, the public and media, then published as Local Storm Reports. They are real observations, but sparse: a storm that crossed an empty field gets no report. Sizes are approximate (a “quarter” is 1 inch, a “golf ball” 1¾, a “baseball” 2¾).
- Radar estimate (the colored swath) is NOAA’s Multi-Radar Multi-Sensor “Maximum Estimated Size of Hail” (MESH), the daily maximum on a 1-kilometer grid. It is the same product behind the paid hail maps roofers show at the door. It often runs high: on several days here the radar shows 2-inch hail where every ground report was 1 inch. Treat it as “hail was likely here,” not as proof of size.
- For an insurance claim, what counts is damage on your roof, documented by an inspection. This map tells you which dates to ask about and whether a “your neighborhood was hit” pitch matches the record. Texas policies commonly give one year from the date of loss to file; check yours.
- Coverage: reports from through (all three counties); radar grids from for days that had at least one 1-inch report or three reports. Storm dates are shown in local time. Click any point for its history; ZIP shading uses the largest estimate anywhere inside the ZIP.
